Christ it’s $35 O.O
and aren’t most of the Melbourne crews still overseas during then?
And who’s competing?
That’s right. Groove has always been about the money and not about looking after the dancers or promoting the hiphop scene. That’s why alot of respectible crews in Sydney and Melb do not compete at it anymore.
can’t wait! it’s gonna be sick!
To Dancer …
Excuse me whoever you are!!! … Groove has not always been about money! If you noticed, the pre-door tickets are $25!
We always organise pre-show meetings to ask the dance groups for feedback about how to run the show. I myself, liaise with, mix and have produced for alot of dance crews in Melbourne and some in Sydney and I have always respected and passed on that feedback to Hoopdreamz who have plausibly acted on that feedback. Furthermore, MANY GROUPS PRAISE the way that Groove and Battlegrounds is run – it’s a shame that many groups still hold grudges from the past and CAN’T MOVE ON!!
It’s a shame that no one can see the GOOD people do and continue to focus on the bad – THAT’S A HATER RIGHT THERE!
IT’S BECAUSE HOOPDREAMZ LISTENS TO THE DANCERS THAT HOOPDREAMZ IS ORGANISED – I know this because I’ve worked for Hoopdreamz Melbourne for many years now – The organisation continues to improve and has a wide network with the hip hop scene – not just dancers – also artists and hip hop producers.
I’m proud to be affiliated with Groove and WSB.
and lastly, to “Dancer” – get your facts straight before you make defamatory comments like that – we’re all here to respect each other and work TOGETHER cuz we’re all a part of the same hip hop family whether you like it or not.
GB
Peace
Ray (RJ)
Im not a hater but I understand where “DANCER” is comming from. I agree with Ray thou, if that makes sense lol
Firstly Groove has improved over the years there is no doubt about that! From humble beginnings to what it has achieved today.
The only question that I have is for years now GROOVE has been running (and i dont wanna sound greedy) but prize money has always remained the same. $1000 is it? Correct me if im wrong.
Dancers expense’s are so much that you cannot name it all. Dancing is something that we all love but in order for crews to progress and grow we all know money can help take more classes or even help pay for some overseas experience.
If an average price for everyone to watch the event is $20? (excluding the promotor fee, if there is any) Where does the rest of the money go?
The basic way justify the costs of the Groove tickets is that we’re using those funds to improve the annual Battlegrounds event (now nicknamed WSB) – the reason why we keep improving WSB is because the dancers ask for it. The dancers want a professional competition so we deliver it.
And I don’t mean to compare but World Hip Hop in Las Vegas haven’t had cash prize money for how many or so years! At least Groove and WSB recognise that hip hop dancers have it hard and need some sort of monetary reward for their efforts.
Thanks for your question ‘No Bias’
Let’s not hate… let’s celebrate!!
Dancer, you gotta come up with the facts before you vent your frustrations in public homie…that’s not cool to just bag
people for trying to do the right thing for the dancers and the industry…
It’s a hard and harsh world out there, and the Groove guys are just doing what they love to do best, the way they know
how…
If you’ve got beef with them, you should first try and come up to one of their crew and speak to them man to man bro…
they’re just Melbournians trying to do it for Hip Hop…
hey Drumstick,
just want to say thank you for posting our Groove Melbourne comp here…
it’s awesome that this site shows support for us event coordinators as well as the dancers…
Hip Hop is all about helping each other out so it’s great to see that you’re out there busting your butt
giving people like us the platform for shoutouts and cross promos…
Just wondering if this is only for Melbourne events?? holla at me bro!
one love.
Oliver
Hi Oli! I’ve replied to an email from Mark/Erick about the same thing. It’s for all of Australia (plus your NZ/Asian heats), but I’m waiting on details of all the other groove qualifiers before I put them up
Hey Drumstick, awesome bro! I’ll see if I can send you the details myself instead coz Erick is busy with organizing NZ and all the other heats… thanks again mate!!
I’m not a dancer but I’ve been to many Groove events in Melbourne. What I hate the most is waiting outside in line just to be cheated by people cutting in in front of me.
This is always what happens. They may say doors open at 5pm. We’re there say at 4:30pm but by 5:30pm the door is still not open. By that time, it’s all chaos in the line. So many people who came late will see their friends at the front, talk to them and next thing you know, they’re not going back to the back of the line. Presto! They’ve just cut in front of the line by 20 people.
So please organisers. Stick to your schedule. 5pm is 5pm!
It might also help to put barriers in the line so the queue won’t look like riot crowds.
I don’t think Groove has a good track record of running their events on schedule.
God 25 bux deal with it. buy a ticket if u wanna support the dance community, dont if u dont want to. simple. groove have always done all they can to provide their best for the dancers and their shows are the only ones that are well organised. if u hold a grudge against their oganisation fair enough, but its pretty much ure loss. just stop putting them down for their great efforts and i wish they continue to in future becuase its the only comp ive done for 5 yrs and its helped me progress as a dancer. It also gives the new crews out there a big opportunity to get ito dance as well as having the best dance crews compete. Keep upthe good work guys.
Groove heat one crews
- Bounczn Dance Crew

- Urban Force Kids

Thanks for the updat cheeseburger! Which of those crews are juniors?
in reply to dancers opinion
Wow I cannot believe I am writing in a forum……
To all of the people who support hiphop in dance/song know from someone who has put their money up to try and help make a difference and give opportunity to performers.
It is not cheap…. If you had to put a dollar value on all the time and money spent to bring an event together you would not be upset with the price that organisers are charging.
You do not need to enter or even go, but respect that they are doing what they believe will make a difference.
My hat goes off to those who continue to do their best to give our great young performers a stage…..
Hoopdreamz,Raw, UEG……AND MANY MORE….
Though I have moved on, I CONTINUE to promote and tell anyone who will listen how proud and honoured I was to of been given the opportunity to be apart of giving young people a stage……
I once heard people mock hiphop dancers and say OHH THAT THING……It inspired and angered me to shove it up there ar*#*s and prove that people not from the scene would want to go and watch and enjoy the performances on stage….(hence SHAKEDOWN).
Your opinions are your own….but ensure you know it costs far more then you realise and that they are not ripping you off.
In 20 years from now…HOW DO YOU WISH TO SEE THE SCENE????
No one watching??? or People Applauding???
I wish all of you the best……
Someone do a stage musical please xxxooo I would love to see a hiphop stage musical…..
Just in regards to hip hop stage musicals: We had Break! from the US come down, but that flopped.
Wickid Force have done some amazing things with their own stage musical, and Cypher Sapiens (Lamaroc, Enigma, Andre) are doing their own touring show soon.
In terms of large scale productions, this is a step in the right direction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2Rd7Cpx-Ss < --WATCH IT!!!
‘In The Heights’ won the 2008 Tony Award for best musical. It’s not strictly hip hop but it’s very close and it offers a glimpse of just how inspiring hip hop theatre can be!! This along with other recent musicals have shown a trend towards more modern and contemporary issues so I have no doubt it’s only a few years away before hip hop musicals are the norm.
MELBOURNE BREAKS….WAS Fantastic and is still travelling……Arch and Wickid Force put on a good show with minimal budget….
Touches on some real issues.
Those who have not seen it, should be heading to country VIC.
BTW…HEY GEOFF!!!!!!
To “mitel”, thanks for your feedback… will definitely get our security guys to organize the queues better…
we can only improve on what you guys give feedback to…
we understand that organizing the queues is important because we know we have kids and parents lining up also…
but understand as well that we CANNOT control everything, especially people who ‘push-in’ up the queues…
just letting you know though that we have full support of the local police across the road from the venue so our patrons
should feel safe and secure…
we will definitely try harder to make sure the show starts on time…
keep them feedbacks coming yo!
- Oliver
Thanks olibear.
“we CANNOT control everything, especially people who ‘push-in’ up the queues”.
Of course you can. You have security. They just need to be outside the door where the queue is and not inside. That way they can keep an eye on the line.
Cheers.
Im moving to Adelaide Which dance group is “Good” no offense ok.. pls. i want to be in a group that ’s good. which group in Adelaide is the best???
I Dont want to be mean but im scared to be a dancer in austrailia because i’ve seen videos and i dont wanna be mean but i want to see better stronger dances from austrailians . sorry im not offending anyone. its just that coming from the philippines i feel that im going to a less stronger hip hop group. and this is just my second year of hiphop. in gradeschool i didnt even know this hiphop dance or anything but since i joined my dance group in highschool i got better and i wanna get better i wanna learn. im still in highschool pls. reply
you are in the wrong state
hey Filipinodancer, there are a few Hip Hop dance schools in Adelaide already, it’s just a matter of you checking out their
dance schools there, and getting in contact with any of their established dance crews…
it’s really up to you to do your research and i’m sure you would need to rehearse first in order to get a dance crew to accept you… try contacting Afrodite on 0417 824 403 of Dance Flava Studios. Start from there…
Also, go and check out Groove Hip Hop Competition in Adelaide on July 18th. It’ll be at the Scott Theatre at the Adelaide Uni…
peace.
Response to mitel:
“we CANNOT control everything, especially people who ‘push-in’ up the queues”.
Sorry to disappoint you but It’s exactly what it means, no venue can really control the “pushing-in” when it’s outside the venue…
our security crew won’t have jurisdiction and control over what goes on outside the venue.
It’s like when you go clubbing and the line is outside, the security guards will only be at the door and will ONLY control
the traffic at the door.
Plus the queues at Groove gets so long that it’s not possible to allocate a resource just for the queues.
that’s why we rely mostly on people to behave etc…
Hey Drumstick, not sure if you guys received my e-mail on the 25/06 about the Open and Junior Categories for Melb Groove One. So here they are again:
Groove 1st elimination on the 11th July 2009:
OPEN Crews:
Bounczn Dance Crew
MDX
Bkode
Alpha Delinkwentz
Tantrumm
JUNIOR Crews:
Urban Force Juniors
Urban Force Kids
Funk-a-licious
Unda-size
Sub Zero
Olibear, how about just get your security to stand just outside the door? That’s where the chaos is. They don’t need to watch the whole length of the queue. Also, you can’t really compare this event to a nightclub. This is supposed to be a family friendly event. You have parents as well as children lining up.
If you can’t really do that, then at least stick to your schedule.
Olibear, it is Groove’s responsibility to manage the queues and ensure the event is run in time. There is no excuses for this about being out of your control. It can be controlled. If you’re working in the entertainment industry, learn to deal with it. Plan ahead.
is it just me or are people becoming more fussy and needy… honestly there are worse things then people pushing in a line… get over it you sound like a bunch of whining little kids
“WatchingYou” and “Excuses” — thanks for the feedback guys…
if you want to discuss it further just let me know and I’d be more than happy to speak to you guys about it and get some ideas for you. just message me here or email me at oliver@hoopdreamz.com.au and I’ll give you my number.
Is there going to be a Melbourne final? I was under the impression that each state’s champion gets to do a support act for NeYo. Unless the lowest scoring winner between both heats gets to be Tasmania’s champion.
Groove’s been in the scene for age’s and i think its their responsibility to fix the little lings so dont call people who complain about the simple things fussy!
The entertainment industry is a hard industry so if you get something wrong you need to fix it for the next one. Without improving even the little things your in it for the money not the scene cause there’s no quality.
Pick up your game Groove you can do so much better than that.
hey does the winner get front act for neyo??
Heard hoopdreamz is bringing neyo
Where can i get tickets for neyo?
Spot, it’s YOU! You’re probably one of the lucky ones who doesn’t need to wait outside getting pushed back in line waiting for the door to open. *sigh*
WOO IM SO EXCITED!
hot asian guys!!! gonna be there! woooo
yeah the winner does get to perform with neyo
TOMORROW WOO
WOO HOO!!! BKODE wins Open division for Groove!!
Nice one boyz! You guys were awesome!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO GO BKODE!
hi guys, sorry for the late reply. I`m still in Japan.
Congrats to BKode!
What were the full results?
Also, what exactly do the winners of each Groove get in regards to Ne-Yo??
Do they perform at the official concert? Or is it a spot at the preparty or afterparty?
Thanks to HoopDreams for stepping up their game! Door opened on time. Show started on time! Good job!
1st: Bkode 2nd: Alpha Delinkwentz
both crews qualify for battlegrounds
and i think the top 2 crews @ battlegrounds get to perform as pre-show acts for ne-yo
but im not 100% on this
Thanks for all who came and supported the crews!!
Thanks also for all the haters who didn’t. Without you guys, we wouldn’t have a show!
the official and complete rankings will be up on the website soon…
who are you “CheeseBurger”??
Get set for August 22!!
Thanks olibear_HDMelb and P.S im still in the Philippines. I study in the ateneo de manila universtiy im in high school and the dance group is INDAK and they’re one of the best among the highschool division. though this is my 2nd year only as a dancer im good at dancing choreography not a Bboy though
