500 urban dancers. 12 nations. 3 titles. All will descend upon the city of Melbourne, Australia’s arts and cultural capital, showcasing some of the most exciting and dynamic displays of Hip Hop dancing like nothing else seen in Australia.
An annual event, the 2009 World Supremacy Battlegrounds is a platform for teenagers and young adults to shine and showcase their Hip Hop dancing skills, ranging from Popping, Locking, Break dancing, Funk, Krump dancing, and even the incorporation of Hip Hop with traditional dance such as Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, and interpretive dance.
Labelled as the biggest street dance battle in the southern hemisphere, we will have Australia’s elite Hip Hop street dancers battle it out with the best from New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Mongolia, and the Philippines. With a total of 43 dance crews battling for the crown, (23 crews from Australia alone), it will be a hot competition not just between the Australian states of VIC, NSW, QLD, WA, ACT, and SA but also against other Hip Hop countries!
Hip Hop choreographers from Australia and the World will round off this spectacular event! Starting with Elm Pizarro, the brainchild of Boogiezone.com, one of the biggest online dance community connection and source out there. The versatile Sho-Tyme, who is not only famous for choreographing for SYTYCD Canada, but also a famous, multi-talented choreographer to the likes of Mary J Blige, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and J-Lo. We have New Zealand’s Joshua “Shua” Martin who is part of the popular Manuaku Hip Hop legends “Prestige” dance crew who are a big name in New Zealand’s Hip Hop community. Melanie Hitchcock aka “Caramell”, from Sydney’s elite Caramell Dance Studios will be representing the Australian judges along side Melbourne’s own Anthony Lawang aka “Lamaroc”, who is a well known and respected breakdancer, choreographer, and event organizer. WSB will also showcase some Hip Hop and R&B talents like SAF1 of a Kind straight from Perth, Chase Baker from Melbourne, MCs KG, Yung Philly, and Lil’Jase.
In the tradition of Hip Hop battles past, this will be another guaranteed cracker of a competition! Battle lines have been drawn. Everything will be left on the stage. Be a witness. Secure your seats before it is too late!

Congratulations to ALL the dance crews who competed and went out there and gave it their all!!
I was disappointed not to see any of the Melbourne crews make it this year, but I know this will be something
that they’ll use as fuel to stoke their inner fire for 2010!!!
Big shout out to the NZ crews who swept the Varsity Category and almost the all of the Juniors!!
Big Ups to Singapore stepping it up and proving that Hip Hop in Asia is bigger than what people think,

Far Kani Krew Just Got Robbed, should of got 1st !
Just checked out the vids. It seems like for the open and varsity crews, the placings were striaght forward although any of the top 4 from open could have won depending on what style you liked. The junior category I felt was incorrect. Kani Krew should’ve won that followed by K-Otik then Urban Force Junior. Sorry 1-2 Check but the dance moves were too easy with the focus on 1 dancer pulling off the hardstuff. With the other 3 crews you could see that most or all dancers were of excellent standard in their performances. Doesn’t mean to say 1-2 check weren’t good. They were still pretty awesome for juniors but Kani won that hands down.
Kani Crew had it for me 2!! That was absolute world standard…
Looking at some of the footage on the interweb, I can’t help but see a lot of resemblance to those American cheerleading movies. A lot of the older crews just seem to be gymnasts or acrobats and a bit of aerobics thrown in for good measure. Too much emphasis, I think, is placed on doing “tricks” and making it a pure show.
To a certain extent I have to agree with SOME of the comments regarding the juniors. Yes Kani Krew and K-Otik could have won, but if you look extremely close, 1-2 Check were actually the tightest with least amount of errors.
I have judged rock bands over the years and one of the essentials particularlly in dance is the timing and how tight the crew or dance troup is.
Regardless ofthe actual placings every one fo the crews I have seen on the web deserve the recognition for making it to the WSB in the first place and an exceptionally “Job Well Done” to all the kids. Much praise should be gievn to the choreographers, dance studios, instructors and mostly, THE PARENTS.
Disagree… I just watched the first 20 sec and it’s not tight nor is the chore good. The kids are great dancers however so big ups to them. Chore wise, not up to winning level when it comes to competing with Kani.
..’ yeahh !!!!! philippines got it again ..! congratz to amplified hip hop of baguio city ! you made it to the top and burn the dance floor ..!! im xo proud to be a filipino ! i have just one question .. why pinoy hip hop didn’t dance ?? and flipendemic?? i thought pinoy hip hop was the 1st placer in world supremacy philippines?
i defiantly agree with burney. 1-2 check were good but i didn’t feel they were good enough for 1st. It should have been
1st- Kani Krew
2nd- K-otic
3rd- Urban Force
But well dont to all the juniors anyways
if all filipino representatives are in the wsb09 i think they will dominate all the categories…hahaha
how much is the cash prize?
Disappointed with the lack of chorey (Not all crews). I guess never to expect chorey at WSB. To our melbourne crews keep doing what you do no matter how tricky everyone gets singapore shows that skill and chorey still have it over tricks.
Whats the Cash prize?
I think I overheard that some of the other phillipino crews didn’t dance because their visas got rejected so they couldn’t come over.
hahaha. the pride of philippines conquer again the battleground, we are supreme not just in terms of dance floor but in others as well. congrats my dear filipino dancers. on fourth years of battleground, we got 3 wins though exquizyth didn’t make last year but they are in the 2nd place
pogi ang sayaw men
thats right.
Kani crew killed it! They no doubt shoulve come 1st. Soo rigged!
-B,
If you know anything about the hip hop world or Dance/Performing world (Which I highly doubt). Crews must be open for any kind of feedback weather it be negative or positive. In this case I wanted to share some feedback, and yes it was negative. Hood dreams are clearly not ready for big competitions, and alot of other dancers have agreed with me. How they made it to WSB is definitley pure luck.
I am fully entitled to voice my opinion, this is a forum what else do we use them for. Do I feel low? In no way, shape or form do I feel “LOW”.
If you feel that people giving you feed back is unnecessary, you need to open your eyes a little bit wider, as recieving feedback is the only way your going to grow.
Love,
Siera.
Siera,
I have been involved in hip hop dancing and performing for many, many years and I can tell you better than anyone the difference between constructive feedback (both positive and negative) and hating.
I totally understand that this is a free forum and appreciate your new points as the bulk of what you said is true. However, you my dear are a hater and what you originally wrote was really low (you took an unnecessary stab at an open wound). Whether you feel it or not just depends on how much of a hater you really are.
Much Love. You need it- B
where is the video of pinoy hiphop dance crew…
A fan. Jus really sick of seeing small minded people discouraging young dancers and thinking it’s ok. Anyway on the positive side so many good things happened that night like Melbourne’s own Alpha Delinkwents becoming australia’s highest ranking crew. congrats the routine and the concept was mad and each dancers commitment to the piece was amazing! can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with this year
Signing out- Sam
its so funny that NZ only has four million people yet they always beat the aussies lol oh well i guess islanders always prevail, and im from the phillipines

i would just like to say that Hood-Dreams did a really good job, i enjoyed it and thought they actually showed us what dancing is all about!
well done kids (:
amplified and request, well done you guys are amazing!
Hey all, from today I’m taking a policy of keeping the negativity and arguments off the site. It doesn’t help anyone and it doesn’t help the scene.
I sincerely apologise for letting the comments (in my opinion) get out of hand.
Regards,
Drumstick
